The government is investing over P2 billion in the construction and operation of an airport in Don Carlos, Bukidnon province, which it expects to open in 2023.
The runway at the Don Carlos Airport is projected to be completed in 2022, while the terminal is expected to be completed in 2023, according to Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, whose father Jose Maria is the governor of Bukidnon.
With a budget of P1.816 billion, the Bukidnon Airport Development Project, located in Barangay Maraymaray in Don Carlos, is one of the government's flagship projects in Northern Mindanao.
It is located on a 149-hectare site approximately 7.3 kilometers from the town's roadway.
Once operational, it will decrease travel time for those who must travel large distances to neighboring regions only to catch a plane.
However, according to its feasibility analysis, the airport is expected to be finished in 2026.
The third phase, which includes the building of a 390-meter runway, is set to begin on December 13.
