This December, North Luzon Expressway is going to start using the Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system, and by January next year, the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The tolls lanes in Meycauayan, Balagtas, Tabang, Bocaue, Sta. Rita in Bulacan and San Fernando, and Angeles in Pampanga will be granted with the new early detection system commencing next month.
These upgrades will bring the total number of NLEX and Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) lane with the ALPR system to 95 and with the early detection feature to 217. The ALPR system has smart cameras that read vehicle license plates making it easy to match motorist’s RFID transactions.
They initially implemented the ALPR system in NLEX Balintawak and in Valenzuela city specifically in Mindanao, Karuhatan, and Paso de Blas, said NLEX Corp. President and General Manager Luigi Bautista. Tolls lanes in Tarlac have also been provided with this system.
To enhance RFID detection capability, by January 2022, the RFID early detection system will carry out in 29 more toll lanes.
Bautista also said, the enhance RFID scanners can detect up to three vehicles in advance and quickly process the toll lane transactions.
The tollway company has already completed the installation of the RFID early detection features in 188 toll lanes.
The APLR system is also helpful in the improvement of safety and enforcement of traffic laws as it helps in identifying vehicles passing the RFID lanes without RFID stickers.
In addition, the data from APLR will be used in the future as part of the contactless apprehension policy which NLEX and the Land of Transportation Office is already working on.
“Technology keeps on evolving and it is imperative to stay up-to-date and relevant. We continue to innovate in and invest in technological advancements as these help us provide paramount service to our motorists,” added Bautista.
